Count the usable voucher
Everyday bills
Check expiry, change and merchant acceptance before buying a discounted shopping voucher.
Compare what the voucher replaces in your planned shopping, not just its face value.
Check the exact terms
Write down the issuer, accepting outlets, expiry and whether partial redemption or change is available. A shopping centre’s name on a promotion does not mean every tenant accepts it. Ask the intended outlet before travelling or buying a resale code.
KPDN PriceCatcher can help compare covered goods; it does not establish voucher acceptance. Keep a separate record of the actual voucher terms. Do not treat an issuer’s older promotion or another customer’s screenshot as your own entitlement.
Use a cash comparison
In a fictional example, you pay RM90 for a RM100 voucher but buy only RM92 of planned goods. If the voucher is single-use without change, the saving is RM2. Spending another RM30 on something unwanted does not turn that into a better deal.
Compare the normal price you can actually pay today, including any promotion that cannot be combined with the voucher. A lower face-value discount can be better when it works at the store you already use without extra transport.
Keep the code private
Confirm the seller through the issuer’s official channels and do not publish redemption codes. Ask what happens if the code fails before making a purchase, not after the cashier has scanned it.
Choose cash when the terms remain unclear or the voucher forces a different basket. This is a decision method, not a claim about any named voucher’s current validity, refund rights or transferable balance.
