Measure the curtain drop
Home & living
Avoid ordering curtain panels that fit the window but not the rail or mounting position.
Choose the hanging system first, then measure from that system to the desired end point.
Choose where it hangs
Record the window width and available wall space on both sides. Decide whether you are using an existing rod or fitting a track. The curtain’s starting height and attachment method affect the finished length; measuring only the glass leaves out that important part of the purchase.
IKEA Malaysia’ curtain guide separates width and length measurements and discusses space beyond the window. Use the instructions for the system you choose. Its suggested arrangement is not evidence that a particular wall can support a fixing or that every rental permits drilling.
Check panel quantities
A listing may sell one panel, a pair, fabric by length or a complete set. Write the number of panels and the width of each before comparing prices. Fullness changes how fabric hangs, so ask which width the seller recommends for your selected rail and heading style.
For an invented comparison, two panels at RM700 each plus RM400 for the required rod cost RM1,800 before fitting. A RM1,500 pair without compatible hardware is not necessarily the finished cheaper option. The prices are examples only.
Inspect the surroundings
Check opening windows, handles, furniture and any equipment near the fabric. Follow the product’s installation and safety instructions, and obtain permission where your tenancy or building requires it. We do not recommend improvised fixings or a universal curtain length.
Before ordering custom work, send the seller a simple labelled sketch with units and mounting position. Ask which dimensions are finished dimensions and which allowances they add. Confirm alteration and return conditions separately; a measuring guide is not a promise that custom items can be returned.
