Compare driving and public transport for the complete outing, including the final connection home.

BestDeals MY editorial · Method reviewed · Original comparison method

Count the costs that change because of this trip, and match the same people and destination.

Write both routes

For driving, record the intended car park, likely duration and the operator’s current rate structure. For public transport, record each leg and any final walk or connecting ride. Check the journey on the actual day; an old timetable is not evidence of a late return service.

Use the number of people actually travelling together. Dividing a parking cost across an imagined full car makes the comparison look cheaper than it is. Admission and meals are common costs and need not be counted twice unless the travel choice changes them.

Test the total

In an invented example, RM12 parking plus RM10 incremental driving costs equals RM22. Two people paying RM6 each for a return public-transport journey total RM12; a necessary RM14 final ride raises that option to RM26. These are illustrative amounts, not current fares.

Compare the same start and end points, and include only charges that apply. Do not invent a universal vehicle operating cost. If reliability or carrying bags matters, note that separately rather than hiding it inside a made-up cash saving.

Keep the exit workable

Confirm car-park access and the route back from the venue. A cheap distant car park may be inconvenient for the group, while a last train may not fit a late event. Choose the workable option rather than assuming the lowest initial fare is the whole cost.

Save the actual operator information before departure and recheck changes on the day. We do not promise parking availability, transit operation or personal travel safety. This guide offers a budget comparison, not a live routing service.
