Compare RM50 over 30 days with the journeys you will actually take. A worked budget for occasional Klang Valley commuters, including card balance and time away.

Start with your calendar: My50 makes financial sense when the normal fares for journeys it covers exceed RM50 within its continuous 30-day period, after accounting for any extra cost needed to use the pass. Working in the office only some days can change that answer.

What the RM50 buys

TNG lists My50 at RM50 per 30-day cycle. Its coverage includes Rapid KL LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT, Rapid KL buses and MRT feeder buses in the Klang Valley. A journey on an operator outside that list needs its own fare check. Do not count an airport transfer, parking payment or e-hailing ride as a fare the pass removes.

The official app-purchase criteria are Malaysian citizenship, completed TNG eWallet eKYC and an NFC-capable device to link an enhanced Touch ’n Go card. This guide is for a qualifying local commuter. It is not a recommendation that an overseas visitor buy a subsidised pass. If your device or card does not meet the app requirements, check the operator’s counter options before buying new hardware just to use the app.

Count actual travel days

Pick the date you expect to activate the pass, then list the following 30 days. Mark confirmed office days and any planned weekend journeys. Remove leave, remote-work days and trips that someone else is already paying for. Do not multiply a busy week by four if the rest of the period will be quieter.

Look up each covered journey’s ordinary fare. Use your own concession or fare category where applicable, rather than a higher fare you would never pay. Add the outbound and return legs, plus any other covered rides you really intend to take. Call this total your eligible fare budget.

Three worked budgets

The following return fares are invented examples, not quotations for a station pair. They assume the same usable card is already available for both options and no extra setup cost.

Plan in 30 daysOrdinary faresCompared with RM50
6 days × RM6 returnRM36Paying per ride is RM14 lower
8 days × RM6 returnRM48Paying per ride is RM2 lower
10 days × RM6 returnRM60My50 is RM10 lower

At a hypothetical RM6 per travel day, eight days do not reach RM50; nine days total RM54. At RM5 per travel day, ten days exactly match the pass price, so you need another covered ride for a fare saving. The useful threshold depends on your journey, not on a universal number of office days.

Work out your own travel month

RM50 covers 30 consecutive days for eligible Malaysian citizens on covered Rapid KL services. Conditions checked 25 Oct 2026; confirm eligibility and current terms in the guide.

Normal fares = travel days × covered fares per day. The RM5 example is not a quoted fare; enter your actual return-trip total.

This compares covered fares only. It does not confirm eligibility, activation, card requirements or costs outside the pass.

Keep cash and cost separate

TNG also specifies a minimum RM5 balance on the enhanced card. That stored balance is different from the RM50 pass charge. If your card already has enough balance, do not add RM5 as a new purchase cost. If it has zero, the listed pass price plus required stored balance means RM55 must be allocated, before any card purchase or other charges. The retained RM5 is not itself a fee for the pass.

For a complete travel budget, add fares outside coverage, the trip to the station, parking where needed and any actual card cost. If these are identical whether you buy My50 or pay per ride, they cancel out of the pass comparison but still belong in your household budget.

Time away changes the choice

TNG says an activated pass runs continuously for 30 days and cannot be paused, extended or carried forward. A week away therefore uses part of the period even if you take no rides. Plan the start around journeys you know you will make; do not assume unused days are credit for next month.

For a short run of busy travel days, compare the one-day and three-day Rapid Kota options as a separate alternative. Avoid stacking passes over the same rides or adding speculative outings to make a pass appear worthwhile. For uncertain plans, paying per ride can cost less than buying unused capacity.
